So, news about our niece first. There will be a second post-mortem on 25 April, although what it's going to find I don't know. The driver is on bail until 22 May. But I'm hoping that the body can be released after the PM and we can at least have a funeral. I'm annoyed by the driver dragging everything out like this. Surely he wants it all to be over just like we do? And surely he realises what a limbo he's leaving the family in? I suppose he's taking his lawyer's advice... So, no date for the funeral, but some progress.

Work is ticking along as usual. My line manager is going to give the department boss a nudge about when he's going to look at my new JD, and make the point that I'm really not looking for an admin-only role. I'm not after a Grade 7 for the sake of it! I did a mini-assessment of my work situation and found that I'm pretty much on a hamster wheel at the moment. I'm engaged and interested by my work, but not stretched or challenged. I mentioned this in our 1-1 this week but when we get round to my annual review, I will be asking for some ideas on how to address that, regardless of any new JD.

The husband and I had one of those 'debates' where I have absolutely no idea what the actual issue is but if I say the wrong thing he goes off in a huff. We managed to avoid the huff (thankfully!) but I still have no idea what the actual problem was that we were discussing. On reflection, I think he just wanted the chance to get things off his chest rather than come to any conclusions or make any actual changes. I think...

Last weekend, the grandson and I went to see Ready Player One, which was a wonderful geek-fest - although I was disappointed by the lack of identifiable FF references :D It reminded me in some ways of the Otherland series. We had a lovely afternoon, though, and identified a couple of films that we want to see in the future.

Writing-wise, I was nearing the end of editing Ch5 when I realised I had swapped it with Ch6, so now I'm at the start of editing the new Ch5 and Ch6 is waiting for that to be done. If you see what I mean.

I'm still loving NNK2 enough to want to finish as much of it as possible on my own. At some point I will give up hunting for Dreamer's Doors and Higgledy Stones and impossible-to-find fish and mushrooms and just finish it. I will then go back with a walkthrough and find all the stuff I missed on my own. But that comes later.

I am also enjoying the second series of Once Upon A Time.

OK, that's all for now. Bye, DW!

Sunday night I watched a documentary about Jesus' female disciples. Some stuff was definitely not new - I mean, if you still think Mary Magdalene was a prostitute, you really haven't been paying attention. I also knew there were female bishops in the early church. But there were some new, and interesting, things.
  • 'Magdala' ('Tower' in Aramaic) might have been a nickname, indicating a strong, imposing woman
  • if Joanna had left her very cosy life as wife of Herod's steward to join Jesus and his rag tag band, it would have been a HUGE scandal
  • when Jesus sent out the Twelve, he sent them 'two by two' - the same phrase as used for the animals in Noah's ark, suggesting not six pairs of men but twelve male/female pairs
  • Salome had a chapel dedicated to her and seems to have been associated with healing
  • when Constantine adopted Christianity, he chose the male-dominated version favoured by the military, presumably to make them more willing to enforce it
So, there you are - 1500 years of oppression and denial is all due to one man.

I am having a go at bullet journaling but a non-paper version. Instead, I'm using OneNote on my work computer. It's not so much for the 'keeping track of what I'm supposed to be doing' because I already use my Outlook calendar for that. I've moved away from Trello, which I've pretty much stopped using, to a simple tick list for my 'to do' list. Although Trello is useful for adding little notes... But I'm trying to have as few applications open as possible.

I can see the advantages of having everything in a single notebook but I am also trying to reduce my use of paper to as near zero as possible. And I am far more likely to remember to pick up my Surface! I read an article about the value of handwriting the other day and I can see it's important to learn to write by hand - but I can do that in OneNote, too. And I can just wipe out mistakes!

So far, it hasn't changed my life, but it's early days. My main motivation isn't organising my time - I do that pretty well, already - it's setting work goals. What is it that I'm trying to achieve, not just for the organisation but for me? I shall keep you updated!

I am still sinking a LOT of time into NNK2 - 50 hours, so far! I'm not trying for all the trophies in this playthrough but I still think they are all very doable. The current plan is to finish the game and then mop up any that are left. I'm not sure how much I'll want to play the whole thing again, though.

I decided that my next game would be Horizon: Zero Dawn, which would also be my birthday present. I managed to pick up a hard copy for £27 - brand new, complete edition! It is now sitting on my shelf, waiting for my birthday to arrive. I will finish the main story in NNK2 well before then - probably even all the trophies. But I didn't finish Poirot, so there's that.

OK, time to get on with the day. Bye, DW!

Update on the niece. She was killed on the road, which suggests she was crossing it at the time. The driver is, apparently, allowed up to 28 days 'rest' due to the shock he's gone through. He can also request a second post mortem. The upshot is that the funeral - and closure - are nowhere in sight.

In happier news, I have already sunk over 15 hours into NNK2 and the verdict is (mostly) positive. It's another game that has tons of stuff going on and a lot of what I thought would be 'optional' is actually mandatory. If you haven't played NNK1, you could definitely still play this one. The only place the two games seem to have in common is Ding-Dong-Dell - I think even the shape of the world map has changed. There is some similarity in the art work and some of the monster designs but it really is a different game.

On my week off last week, we painted the kitchen, which is now a rather jaunty yellow. The doors need redoing, though, because the colour I got is a) too white and b) patchy.

I also got my hair cut a lot shorter, which will require more frequent trims but the place I got it done is only at the end of the road, so it's less faff to get to.

And I finished Jessica Jones - seriously good AND I noticed that a lot of the writers and directors were female - and I've restarted Once Upon a Time.

Oh, and the editing/creating on Chapter 4 is coming along.

Well, that's it for now. Bye DW!
