My desire to just chill extended into today, so I didn't make it to church. But I'm leading the service next week, so will HAVE to get my arse into gear!

Following from yesterday's launch of yet another FFVIII adventure (I have no clue how many times I've played this game), I spent an hour or so fighting fish on the beach to harvest their AP and, once Quezacotl had learned 'Card' turning them into cards. I also drew lots and lots of magic and refined it into the next level. Thank goodness for x3 speed! Then I defeated Ifrit but I forgot to give Quistis the GF ability so, although she had Shiva junctioned, Ifrit couldn't comment on it - doh!

With my Ifrit card and a Trauma card I got from carding a Caterchipillar, I then entered Garden ready to do battle and quickly gained the Mini Mog and Quistis cards. I also ran into Balamb itself and played a few hands with the singer near the entrance to the town. Ma Dincht isn't ready to play cards, yet, because I haven't officially met Zell. Did you know there's a chap near the harbour who can nix 'Open'?! Well, I didn't - thank goodness I saved just outside Balamb! I'm looking to collect Blue Dragon and Elnoyle cards.

So, three hours in, I'm ready to head off on the Dollet mission :D

I also got Chapter 3 finished - 10 days and 15k words. Still slightly behind - and I have Things To Do the next two evenings :( There's an outside chance I can get to 25k on 15 Nov, though...

And that really is the sum total of my day!

We had a lovely time celebrating grandson #2's birthday, today. All our presents went down well. The 'not quite Duplo' blocks we got were a particular hit - he held two of the blocks next to each other, clearly knowing that they connected to each other but not actually connecting them. Then he put them all back in the bag without being told! He also got over enthusiastic and added a ball of wrapping paper for good measure ;D

Then we brought out his cake with a '1' candle that daddy helped him to blow out. And he ended up with chocolate cake all over his face and sat on a chunk of it, too. We have some adorable pictures to embarrass him with in about 15 years.

There was also good news for grandson #1 who passed his theory test on the first try. One of his mates has failed it 10 times... He's now looking at buying his first car! Still needs to pass the practical, of course.

Spent this afternoon playing R&C:RA. I'm getting more comfortable with it, but some of the weapons leave me scratching my head. What are the gloves for...? The animation is really smooth, though. And Clank has his own part to play in the story, which is nice. I really know nothing about this franchise, other than Ratchet is supposed to be the last Lombax but then Rivet turns up. She looks SO like a colleague of mine, even down to her hair. But I feel like I do know them. I certainly want to see how the story progresses, anyway.

And I played Rooms: The Main Building on the Nintendo DS in the bath this morning and that's definitely working for me, so I'll carry on with it. I found a few spare game cartridges in my carry case, which need to go back in their respective boxes at some point.

Not much else happened today, but that's a good Saturday in my book.

I took Thursday and Friday off because a) I need my leave and b) the meetings are stacking up but there is still SOME wiggle room!

Thursday I spent slobbing round the house in my PJs.  I spent quite a bit of time with DAI and made cauliflower cheese for tea but otherwise did very little.

Yesterday, I had a filling replaced, did a bit of shopping (and almost spent money on clothes but stepped away again) then met my mother and step-father for a coffee.  They'd been to see their solicitor to check on the security around their wills after listening to a radio programme about elderly people being preyed on by being persuaded to marry people and change their wills in their favour.  Anyway, everything's OK with theirs!

When I got home I found the very sweet salt and pepper holder I got for the daughter and co as a house-warming present had finally arrived.  It's hand carved and came from Bulgaria, or somewhere.  It's shaped like two leaves end to end and has a swivelly top.  Now we just need to fix a date for visiting!

My new boots had also arrived.  I ordered a pair in burgundy.  I took the first one out and thought it looked a bit dark but maybe it was just my eyes, or the light, or something.  Then I took the other one out and that was definitely burgundy.  The reason the first one looked black was because it was!  So, they are going back with a request that they send me a PAIR of burgundy ones!

And next Saturday our new cooker arrives.

But today is for cleaning and chilling.  See you next week, DW!

So, I don't really watch a lot of telly these days.  If I'm not working or being with the boys, I'd rather be gaming.  But a week off allows for gaming AND telly!

I've watched the full first series of Miracle Workers.  I loved Steve Buscemi as God - just beautiful.  And when the angels stopped interfering and just let the humans get on with it!  They could have saved a lot of time and lives if they'd just done that in the first place.  But I suppose that's what we're like, isn't it?  We think we understand other people's lives so much better than they do.  If so-and-so would just do X their life would be so much better!

I'm also watching The Watch, which is two half-hour episodes a week.  It's 'influenced' by the characters created by Terry Pratchett.  Detritus the Troll died in the first (or second) episode, probably to save on the CGI budget.  Also, Death's horse Binky hasn't made an appearance, probably for the same reason.  The budget may be low but the production values are high.  And it's an excellent example of how to do diverse casting.  The casting is probably the main reason I'm watching it.  It's like an AU Discworld - almost fanficcy.  But I'm enjoying it more than the adaptations Sky did a few years ago.  It is also making me want to read through the whole collection from start to finish - which would take a lot of time and money!

Then there's Anika with the wonderful Nicola Walker.  She breaks the fourth wall by talking to the camera - although we understand she's talking to herself, really.  How she's made it to DI as a single parent, I'm not sure.  Determination and available baby-sitters I suppose.  Anyway, the ongoing trials and tribulations of being a mother to a teenage daughter are a source of great enjoyment.

I've also got through some of the films on my Tivo, including New Mutants (even though I'm officially 'off' Disney, I wanted to see Anya Taylor-Joy in a very different role - she's quickly becoming a favourite) and Enemy of the State (not sure the tech in the film was really available in 1998 but I'm pretty sure it is now - and pretty much anyone can get their hands on it).

I have also exercised my emotional intelligence a couple of times, once to get my own way without a row!  After 35 years, I'm finally learning how my husband ticks.  It's never too late...

And the corner that will be the rockery is now weed-free, filled with good compost and covered in bark chippings.  I've identified some existing rocks (they're chunks of concrete but when they're buried and have cute little plants growing all over them they'll be rocks) we can use, so that will save buying and transporting any.  I'm planning on doing the planting up in the spring.

I'm also bursting with ideas for using some of the very many (far too many) plastic bottles that pass through our house as planters, particularly for trailing plants on the now bare fence.  Just not sure there'd be enough soil...  But there's only one way to find out!

Back to work on Tuesday, so that will be fun.  In the meantime, there will be plenty of opportunities for further chilling!

I had Thursday and Friday booked as leave this week.  I did nothing more productive than a bit of gaming - not even a LOT of gaming - but that's OK.  It was nice to just chill for a couple of days.  It's a measure of how much I unwound that I can't really remember much about Monday - Wednesday - and I'm really not interested in trying.

Normally when I have a couple of days off I get ahead for the weekend by doing my cleaning jobs, maybe some washing, but this time I just thought 'fuck it'.  That means that I have a busy day ahead but I REALLY enjoyed my relaxed days.

I finished watching The Queen's Gambit.  I enjoyed the stuff about chess - the drugs, drink and meaningless sex, not so much.  And at the end it felt like any other run of the mill damaged person comes good story.  The chess was just dressing to make it something New And Interesting.

The Rookie continues to entertain me despite being 'just another cop show' (my chat buddy's words).  I was disappointed that the big BLM story felt like jumping on the band wagon and now the 'bad' cop has been dealt with, everything's OK now...?  But they have actually addressed race issues in other ways.  And if Lopez is 14 weeks pregnant, she must have the pram in there as well...

OK, time to get on with today.  Bye for now, DW!

Had a couple of days off last week.  Thursday I just chilled out - finished DAI - didn't do much else!

Yesterday I went shopping, not only in town but to the nearest Asda.  Came home hungry and grumpy, which - inevitably - didn't end well.  Apologies are in order for how I spoke if not for what I said.

And... That's about it.

'til next week, DW!

It's been a week?  Really?!  Who knew time spent eating and chatting and watching telly could go so quickly?

Er...

That's really all I've done for the past week.  A tiny bit of gaming...

I finished watching 'iZombie' and I approve of the ending - although I did feel a bit sorry for Don E.  And the leader of the Dead Enders could have been more empathetic - that was one of the reasons Chase Graves worked for me as an antagonist, because I could see the conflict he faced in every decision - Dolly was just nasty and bitter without any real explanation of how she got there.  By the end, there were so many threads and plot lines that I gave up trying to remember who had done what and who was working with whom, but I think it all worked out with no loose ends.  But the good ended happily and the bad ended unhappily, which is what fiction means, after all!

I'm also half way through 'The Witcher' and, on the whole, I'm enjoying it.  The jumping around the timeline makes my head spin a bit but I'm keeping track of everything.  I am really confused about who Ciri's father is, though.  I looked him up on the Wiki and the person it named also married her...?

Anyway, today is going to be a chilled day - with more food and chat and telly and, perhaps, game.  This week has been for unwinding and putting the year behind me and into perspective.  Next week is my real break, and will, therefore, include housework!

See you in the New Year!

It was graduation week.  I love graduation.  I helped out at 7 out of 12 ceremonies, and even did a bit of ushering for a change.  The anxiety I felt at getting 15 people from one side of the cathedral to the other was ridiculous!

Thursday was a stupidly busy day, some of which was of my own choosing.  And next Tuesday is looking set to be similar.  I do keep an eye on how much stuff I'm trying to cram into 24 hours but then Stuff Happens and...  Well, I'm on leave next Friday, so I will make that a Do Sweet FA day, I think.  Today is going to be a definite Chill Out Day, too.

There is other stuff but I want to get the day started.

Bye for now, DW!

Saturday could not have gone any better. The husband liked all of his prezzies, the daughter, grandson and I did some shopping together without falling out, and we got to the restaurant in plenty of time.

The food at Meet was really good. Everyone had what they wanted and came away replete. Everyone had a good time and there was no grumbling or falling out. And the bill was quite a bit smaller than I was expecting.

We finished off with a little stroll along the river, which blew away some cobwebs and livened us all up again. It wasn't warm but it wasn't really cold, either. Then daughter and grandson came back to ours for a bit before going home.

I then watched Doctor Who, which was brilliant (of course!). Slamming up against Bill's ethnicity was handled very well. I'm glad they're making something of it, because trying to ignore it in the case of Martha was, I think, a mistake.

Yesterday was supposed to be a 'chill out day', including some FFXV. I hadn't had a chance to play since Wednesday, so hadn't downloaded the update. It took HOURS! This gave me chance to watch a couple of things on the Tivo, but it wasn't what I had planned. I did eventually get to it (beating Leviathan and getting to the part where Ignis is blind), but it wasn't quite the day I had planned.

Today is the May Day Bank Holiday, so I shall be cleaning the bathroom, mowing the grass, and hoovering upstairs. And gaming.
