My calendar looked ridiculous at the start of the week but a couple of cancellations made it manageable.  One of the things that slipped in to one of the gaps was my annual appraisal.

I am a big supporter of the process - reflecting back and planning forward are things I approve of.  But the form always feels a bit like a school report, and the older I get, the weirder that feels.  My line manager is about my age, too, so in most ways our relationship is one of equals - and then there's this...

Anyway, my objectives from last year weren't really fulfilled - but largely because, I now realise, the objectives themselves were rather wooly.  They were mostly, 'Rosa will do aspect x of her JD' - which... well... yeah... that's my job.  This year's are better, I think.  Except one that I've asked to be rewritten.  We'll see how it goes.

Also did some more shopping for Number 2 Grandson <3  Mostly practical (baby bath, nappies) but also some cute bath toys.  It's all feeling very real :D

And two of my colleagues are expecting babies in December.  The world is awash with cuteness.

Oh, I think I still haven't given my final thoughts on Lucifer.  I really wasn't a fan of series 5.  It turned in to the kind of show you'd expect a programme about the Devil would be.  And I missed the investigations in series 6.  But I did like the ending.  I thought it wrapped everything up very nicely.

And now I am back in the nostalgia-fest that is ST:TNG :D

Well, not really fuck all.  There's ALWAYS the cleaning.  And I'm getting my hair cut on Tuesday.  And grandson has GCSE results on Thursday. And daughter is supposed to call in on Friday after her first scan.  AND I want to get husband out in the fresh air as much as possible.

But there won't be work getting in the way.

And there will be FF9.  And Lucifer.

As an aside, I've been thinking about Lucifer.  One thought I've had is his similarity to The Doctor.  The Doctor is known as a non-violent character but has most definitely BEEN violent in the past and allows the companions to use weapons - but the Doctor's FIRST reaction is not violence, it's humour.  Lucifer is violent, almost by definition, but also usually leads with a friendly smile and a joke.

A second is the focus on the female gaze.  Lucifer, again almost by definition, will have sex with anyone, anywhere, anytime.  But there is a lot of focus on women desiring HIM.  There's no gratuitous nudity, no rape-dressed-as-seduction.  There are LOTS of female characters, too, who have conversations with each other.  A lot of those conversations are about Lucifer - but he's the title character :D  Not entirely sure where I'm going with this but I approve.

Thirdly, there's Ella.  I love that she's a Christian now but she has a Past.  But it does seem like the writers are like, 'we need random skill x - let's give it to Ella!'.  She can pick locks, count cards and get her hands on rare controlled substances.  It's quite the skill set.

Work was pretty quiet this week, but I got to tidy some stuff up that had been hanging around for a while.  My line manager was on leave, so a lot of the meetings related to the project he's PM'ing didn't happen.  But we did welcome back the contract PM who supported the implementation of the CRM system 6 years ago.  We've moved building and increased our personnel in the meantime.  I tried to give a potted history of the project delivery folk but I know I didn't get the timeline right - not that he really cares :D  I skipped over the whole thing with my previous line manager and team leader because the CIO is his mate - I just said they'd left and it was 'a thing'.  He can ask his mate if he wants to know.

I did realise, though, we've been through 3 BAs and 2 PMs in the past 6 years!  We now have 3 BAs (2 perms, 1 contract about to start) and are trying to recruit a 4th (I think uni wages aren't attractive enough to people at the right skill level, though) and 3 PMs (2 perm and the contractor), and are recruiting a 4th.  And there's still only 1 of me *sigh*

We also have one of the leadership team leaving as well as the person who heads up the tech team for our main student system.  My favourite conspiracy theory is that the person who heads up the tech team for the finance/payroll/HR system will get promoted to the top job (possibly with further recruitment to that team or they'll just continue with dev/tech work for that system) and the functional/support team for the student system will be moved from the department they currently sit in to ours with their manager replacing the tech manager through a restructure rather than recruitment.  This all makes sense to me :D  But our student system is quite niche in this country, so finding someone with appropriate experience is really difficult.  All the current members of the tech team and most of the func team were here when the system was implemented - in fact, most of the func team were ON the implementation team.  So, why are they func not tech?  A very good question that would involve a lot of knowledge of the individuals and the history of the organisation to answer :D :D

Anyway, it's nice to have a working theory that makes sense.  So, it's probably the last thing that will happen ROFLMAO

There's a food delivery due soon and I need to do my exercises, so I'll sign off, now.  See you next week, DW!

So, the biggest news this week is that I'm watching Lucifer, finally.  My chat buddy has been going on about it for ages but it wasn't shown here and then Netflix only had the later series.  Randomly, for no reason I can identify, I checked again - and lo and behold, they had ALL the series.  So, I immediately began watching!

I want to say at the outset that I find the idea of Hell incompatible with a loving God.  I'm not even convinced by Heaven - I believe our job is to bring Heaven to Earth.  But I am setting aside personal convictions for the sake of watching a TV show :D

I love that Lucifer isn't evil.  He doesn't enjoy, or promote, wickedness.  He spots, and punishes, wrong behaviour - all the while complaining about his father giving him the job he's clearly best at :D  I also love that the main cast are all in their late 30's but are presented as attractive and desirable - not 'over the hill'.

Oh, and they've clearly used the cutest child they could find for Trixie, which makes Lucifer's horrified reactions to her completely hilarious.  Why is he horrified?  Is there something about the 'innocence of childhood' that he can't get inside of?  I haven't thought about this in any depth - it's only just occurred to me.

Anyway, if you have the opportunity, do watch it.  It's clever, sassy and a LOT of fun.

It's our 30th wedding anniversary on Monday - but that feels like next week's news, which is why Lucifer got top billing here :D
