We're getting to meet granddaughter on Wednesday <3 Younger grandson will be in nursery but it'll be quite nice to meet the baby on her own.

Managed to cajole my brain into doing some actual work today. I just need to get through this week, have a week of complete chill-out - then jump into September with both feet!

I made a start on my nano planning using the 'snowflake' method. I've already got a dozen characters - two main, one not quite main but more than secondary, and 9 secondary. Then there'll be the 'big bad' who'll be not quite secondary but more than incidental. And then... who knows how many incidental. I also want to work out just how many plot threads there are, and which is actually the main one. Because solving the main crime is NOT the main plot. Patel's 'coming of age' is. I think... It's also going to echo Sense & Sensibility by being ABOUT Patel but told from Harding's POV. S&S confused me for years because I couldn't work out who the heroine was. Then I saw a video on YouTube about stories that are about one character but told from the POV of another and the penny dropped - there's a technical term for it, I'm sure! Then there's also Harding and Selena's 'romance' but it's more a 'getting each other out of the system' thing. The real romance is Selena's daughter and Harding's ex's stepson, which will sort of go on in the background where it'll hardly be noticed :D

Yeah - it's complicated and I don't know how much justice I'll be able to do all of that in a nano.

Played an hour of ISS - just running around spray painting and drug busting. Did a showdown in one area. Next time, I will do the next story thing!

And watched an episode of Umbrella Academy. It's bonkers, really - but I find myself caught up in it. Psych was a different kind of bonkers and I just enjoyed the ride. UA has so much going on. Each character has their own story-arc - then there are combinations of different characters - and then the 'umbrella' arc of Saving The World. Again... And I thought my nano was complicated!

Right, time for bed. I've got an earlyish meeting tomorrow.

My marsh marigolds finally flowered this year - beautiful yellow flowers all over our tiny pond. But it looks like the damselfly larvae didn't survive the winter this year. A memory popped up on fb of them emerging this time last year but there's been no sign of them this year - and we definitely saw pairs of adults laying eggs. It was so cold, and the pond is so small, that it froze solid, so I was prepared to be a damselfly-free zone this year. It's still a little sad, though.

Hopefully there will be more eggs laid and the winter won't be quite so cold.

Husband got some quality time with grandson #2 this week while I was in the office. I'm sorry I missed some cuddles but it was a nice Father's Day present for him.

We bought a 'snug seat' for the baby that lets him sit up and see what's going on more than the bouncy chair. Originally, we ordered it in green but then got an email saying it wouldn't be delivered until mid-July(!), so did we want to change the colour to grey or pink. Obviously, we went for the grey one. Got an email confirming the change, then nothing until we got a message from daughter saying it had arrived. Don't think we'll be using 'Baby Planet' again. I only went with them this time because I got an extra 10% off for signing up to the newsletter, which pretty much covered the postage.

I thought the telly in our room, which is where I do my gaming, was on the blink. The screen was fuzzy and flickery. The downstairs telly isn't the best but works, so I was prepared to get a new one for downstairs and bring the other up upstairs. Then I tried changing the HDMI cable - and it worked perfectly. So, no need for a new telly, just yet. No idea how long we've had the one upstairs but it works :) And it may be old, but FFXVI still looks amazing on it.

I have calmed down a tiny bit now that I've played the demo - but I am still very excited to play the whole game. I'm going to try downloading it Thursday night, but it may have to wait until Friday morning when I'm WFH. The PS5 doesn't always want to play with our wifi - no idea why when every other gizmo in the house is perfectly happy with it - so sometimes it needs supervision :D

The news of a FFX remake is... interesting. I'm more motivated to play it than I am with FFVII, but probably not more motivated to buy it. A remake of FFVIII, of course, would be a VERY different story. Just sayin', SE!

And that's about it for this week.

Suddenly come down with a cold. There have been some covid cases in the office but no colds, that I'm aware of. It's only light - started coming on last night so I had a Lemsip before bed and I've had a couple more today - plus my usual fluid intake. It's dehydration that kills me with a cold. Think I'll stay at home tomorrow morning, though, especially as we're hoping to go out to a local Indian restaurant in the evening.

I'm leading and speaking next Sunday, though, so want to be fighting fit for that! It's the call of Abram, which I'm going to contrast with Jesus sending out his disciples - the disciples are told to take nothing with them, to rely on God's generosity through other people, whereas Abram takes EVERYTHING with him because there are no previous examples for him to follow. Or something like that.

Had a good chat with my spiritual director about the 'new monastic community' idea - which we really want a new name for. Something gender neutral that also gives SOME indication of what it is without it needing a long explanation. Yeah - such a simple thing to do :D In the meantime, I'm hoping to start a prayer group, just so we keep up some momentum.

Felt like I was Doing My Job for a good chunk of the week - fewer meetings to take minutes for but more regarding people seeking my advice. One of the projects now has a dedicated business change manager, who is scary-competent but also super-nice, so is likely to Get Shit Done! I wondered idly to a colleague about getting them to join our department, then felt a moment's panic that they might show up my flaws - but a) that should just make me work even better and b) I don't think they'd actually want my job anyway :D And c) they must have their own flaws, I just haven't seen them, yet!

I watched Andrew Lloyd-Weber's 'Who do you think you are?' and it was really interesting - but at the back of my mind I was thinking there's some reason for disliking him, just can't remember what.

And we got to have cuddles with grandson #2 today. He also has a slight cold, so we couldn't infect each other :D He is still the most adorable baby ever.

My calendar looked ridiculous at the start of the week but a couple of cancellations made it manageable.  One of the things that slipped in to one of the gaps was my annual appraisal.

I am a big supporter of the process - reflecting back and planning forward are things I approve of.  But the form always feels a bit like a school report, and the older I get, the weirder that feels.  My line manager is about my age, too, so in most ways our relationship is one of equals - and then there's this...

Anyway, my objectives from last year weren't really fulfilled - but largely because, I now realise, the objectives themselves were rather wooly.  They were mostly, 'Rosa will do aspect x of her JD' - which... well... yeah... that's my job.  This year's are better, I think.  Except one that I've asked to be rewritten.  We'll see how it goes.

Also did some more shopping for Number 2 Grandson <3  Mostly practical (baby bath, nappies) but also some cute bath toys.  It's all feeling very real :D

And two of my colleagues are expecting babies in December.  The world is awash with cuteness.

Oh, I think I still haven't given my final thoughts on Lucifer.  I really wasn't a fan of series 5.  It turned in to the kind of show you'd expect a programme about the Devil would be.  And I missed the investigations in series 6.  But I did like the ending.  I thought it wrapped everything up very nicely.

And now I am back in the nostalgia-fest that is ST:TNG :D

This week has largely been about Graduation.  I only did 4 ceremonies, but each one is a fresh adventure :D  One of my colleagues wanted to help out but was told they had too much work to do - by someone who has been on leave for two weeks!  They could have done ONE ceremony - or trusted to be a responsible adult who knows how to be a professional and left to make their own decision.  Anyway, they have kind of lived the week vicariously through me :D

I know I wax lyrical about Graduation every year.  I was telling my line manager about it (who was allowed to be responsible, adult and professional and decided for themselves that they had too much work on) who said, 'You really enjoy it, don't you?'.  Can anyone say 'massive understatement'? :D :D

Our other news is that our daughter is expecting and everything is looking good, so far.  There will be the same age gap between the grandson and the baby as between me and their mother :D :D  We're that kind of family.  I am very excited.

Oh, and the Government imploded and there's a really diverse array of potential candidates to take over as Leader of the Conservative Party and, by default, as PM.  Labour, on the other hand, continues to be led by clueless white men *facepalm*
