So, we went to A&E on Saturday.  We started with salt and potassium levels - low levels can cause confusion, apparently.  Then we found that the husband's blood sugar levels were off the scale and swamping the salt - so we had a diagnosis of diabetes.  The son and I left him being hooked up to a drip for an insulin infusion that needed to be in place for 24 hours.  We got home, I fell into bed about 1am and opened my eyes again at 9am.

Sunday morning, I had a lovely bath then got a call from the hospital that the husband was being 'unco-operative', which made me smile.  The son and I went right over and found him still in A&E.  However, a bed had been found and we went up to his room.  The new hospital is set up with separate, en suite rooms, so at least he had his own space.

We had a less-than-easy week, but I'm not going into detail.  They got his insulin dose settled and added a new tablet to the collection.  I was shown how to measure his glucose levels and give the insulin, and got some information about diet.  To be fair, his diet isn't too bad - it's things like sugary drinks and chocolate biscuits that we're having to cut out.  Of course, his continued memory loss means that he has no idea why 5 seconds after I've explained it...

They thought there was more going on than the high sugar levels, so did an MRI scan on him to check his brain - but there was nothing physical.  So, that is still a mystery.  We've got appointments coming at us for his heart, diabetes - and feet!  At least two of which have been scheduled for the same time...  What we want, though, is one for the memory clinic, which might finally give us some answers.

I took last week as leave (which had its own twist concerning strike action) and have just booked next week, too.  And I'm going to ask to work at home at least until Christmas.

So, some things we know and can deal with.  And other things remain shrouded in doubt and strangeness.

WTF...

I went into town yesterday to a) get my hair cut and b) make a serious dent in the Christmas shopping.  The hair cut went really well to the point where the husband, who normally doesn't comment at all, let alone compliment, said it suited me!  It is VERY reminiscent of how I had my hair when we met, though, so I keep catching a glimpse of 14-year-old me in mirrors XD

However, the hairdresser also told me there had been a stabbing in town the night before, of a 12-year-old girl.  Apparently, she got into some sort of argument with a group of teenage boys, one of whom pulled a knife and stabbed her in the neck.

She was out with her friends to watch the switching on of the Christmas lights.  Her parents probably thought, 'Christmas lights - mates - what can go wrong?'.

Four teenage boys (from our area of the city, which is as much as to say they're black) have been arrested.

It's going to be a great Christmas for all involved...

The whole of the town centre was cordoned off, including the three shops I particularly wanted to visit.  So, I was inconvenienced.  I realise, of course, that my inability to join in the orgy of excess is nothing compared to what the girl's family are going through.
