Battled through wind and rain to get to the office and battled through even MORE wind and rain getting home, which left me worn out. Managing an umbrella whilst being battered by said wind and rain is Not Fun. I noped out of my planned trip to the bank to sort the DDs out for the new account because there was snow. But I did make progress with my letter to the VC asking for support in trying to persuade my pension fund to divest from arms companies.

Tomorrow I'm going to buy a proper windproof umbrella - Shop Quality Accessories | Best Gift Ideas for Men - Collar and Cuffs London.

I've also found a site that sells clothes named after goddesses - Renaissance, Wiccan, Viking, Celtic & Boho Clothing | HolyClothing. Naturally I'm drawn to the Athena and Brigid designs! The dresses are probably too expensive - not overpriced for what they are, but I'm not sure whether I'd wear them - but it's possible to buy the belts on their own and I would definitely wear them.

I considered playing R&C:RA tonight but settled for some telly instead. Video games require brain power that I just didn't have.

And now it's time for bed.

New tv stand is ordered and will be delivered Wednesday.

The office was pretty quiet today. I was only in because there was a 'meet your fellow professional services teams' thing on. There is a wide range of services, all focussed on making the student experience the best it can be, all underpinned by IT. I saw some familiar faces but didn't get much chance to speak to people. There were people from each service but we weren't all there - I think there must be about 500 all told. A 'job shadowing' scheme is being put together, which could be interesting. Of course, I'm already keen to reach out to my projecty colleagues :D

I watched a bit more of Dave from Playstation Access playing FFVII. It's fun seeing him having fun with it for the first time.

I'm leaning towards Fenyx Rising as my next game because it's more in my comfort zone, but that probably means it would be more like the game I've just finished. On the other hand, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart would be something very different - but I'm not feeling a great pull towards 'different'. Or I may finally go in and face Yunalesca who has been waiting for me for a VERY long time.

The colleague I gave the old games to has developed an addiction to The Talos Principle :D I remember the rush I got when I solved a puzzle - and the utter frustration of failing to do so. But I'm glad they're enjoying it.

There are now 3 snowdrops in the garden. I am very happy about that.

And I'm really struggling to find anything interesting to say, so I'll stop.

One of the lovely side effects of being menopausal has been very sore boobs just before my period.  Taking my bras off on those days has been the most blessed of reliefs.  So, I thought I'd invest in some soft bra top thingies.  I have some for weekends and they are very comfy but they don't have matching knickers.  I like my underwear to match.

What?

Anyway, i thought that, while I was 'investing', I'd look for some eco/fairtrade underwear.  Last time I looked into such things it was horribly expensive and the choice was severely limited.  Surely times have changed?  Well, I can report that the prices have come down to something reasonable.  The choice, however...

All the UK companies sell stuff in black or white.  Oh, or the dullest of dull grey or blue.  Seriously - just because I have a conscience doesn't mean i can't want pretty things, you know!  There is a US company called TomboyX that do colours - yay!  Except that they are LGBTQIA rainbows and trans blue-pink-white stripes.  Now, regular readers will know that I consider myself an ally, but I don't want anyone to think I'm aping or mocking or just plain not understanding so...  No to the vibrant colours.  Also, their knickers are all variants of male underwear which just feels...  No!

So, I've gone with Everlane.  Bikini briefs and soft bra top in pale pink.  They also do a nice pale blue, but one thing at a time.  I had to pay an extra $11 for duties and fees, although shipping is free.  And it's coming from the other side of the world, which kind of lowers my SJW points considerably.  BUT they are a great company, their models are of all shapes and sizes.  AND I wear all my clothes to death, so I will definitely get the wear out of them!

I'm currently watching The Society on Netflix.  It started out a bit slow, then something happened at the end of episode three and I was hooked.  I'm 8 episodes in, now - only 2 left.  Although I'm expecting a second series because they can't wrap everything up in 2 episodes.

It's hard to say anything without spoiling stuff.  There are lots of really interesting characters and even the 'goodies' have their flaws which is a good thing.  Lots of moral issues have come up and it's interesting to see how they deal with them.  They have to find an answer to everything - there is no theory here.  Their interactions and relationships and decisions are all very believable.  And they find the chance to insert humour into some quite dark places.

Tomorrow is the Champions League Final - come on Reds!!!

And that's all for now.  Bye DW.

I am hardly ever bored - there's always something to do. And I'm also getting better at doing things I don't want to do.

Yesterday was one of the fullest days I think I've ever had! The husband is getting a taste for going out and has taken up going for short walks, which I encourage because otherwise he'd just seize up completely. So, yesterday we decided to go for a walk together, since I was off work and had nothing more important than cleaning and gaming on my 'to do' list. We ended up being out for longer than either of us expected and paying for a rather expensive lunch that wasn't all that great. But, it was good to be out and to be together.

I also managed three loads of washing, full clean of the living room and (this is the discipline part!) a full clean of the kitchen, which I almost persuaded myself I didn't need to do. But I felt so much better when it was done - and it only took half-an-hour.

And I made progress with 'I Am Setsuna' and 'Once Upon a Time'.

OUAT is getting to be a bit like 'Lost' - I just want it to be over, now. The 7th series really wasn't necessary and there have been so many twists and turns. Who really is the Big Bad in this one?! Two characters that are fascinating me, though, and are keeping me watching are Tilly/Alice and Samdi/Facilier. Oh, and Gothel/Eloise - completely amoral, which makes her probably the most interesting of all!

Today is pay day and I am taking myself shopping for journaling supplies, Lush stuff, and some new trainers. Retail therapy!!!

I've managed to break the back of the editing of Mannerley. I've cleaned up a number of niggly things that bothered me during my read through and I've also strengthened the ghost scene which is, after all, the climax of the plot. I want to go over that once more, though. Then it's the Big Job - the dialogue. I've found some excellent blog posts on The Write Practice and Ride The Pen, which I am going to use. First step is making sure the dialogue works for each scene - driving plot, developing character, all that. Then, I'll make sure each character's 'voice' is properly represented. And then I smooth out any remaining roughness before sending out to my Betas, take on board any final feedback and (drum roll, please!) then we self-publish. *squeals with excitement* I think my deadline of end of August is probably over-ambitious, so it might be September, but having an aggressive timeline has really pushed me to Get It Done. I also thought it was nearer to being done-done than it was. But I have enjoyed the editing process far more than I expected to, perhaps because of the delay. Anyway, there is light at the end of the tunnel and I will reach it by taking one step at a time.

So, my daughter has always been accident prone.  The slightest unevenness in a pavement and she was always the one to trip over it.  She has a scar on her forehead from where she collided with a concrete step whilst running around the school playground on a wet day.  On Friday, she fell face-first into the pavement and chipped off half a tooth, and has a fat lip.  I'm guessing it happened too quickly for her to put out her hands (although apparently she did have time to think 'Oh, fuck!').  She has escaped unscathed, otherwise, though.  A small scrape on her knee but no other damage to her face.

The emergency dental service wouldn't see her because they consider the damage cosmetic, so she's going to have to try to see her local dentist ASAP.  The walk-in centre in town told her there's no infection in her lip, she just has to wait for it to go down.  I suspect the dentist won't be able to do much with her lip the way it is but at least they'll be able to get a plan together for how to deal with the tooth.  And her work have been really nice about it and are letting her book a week's holiday at short notice while the lip goes down.

So, she's a bit frustrated - mostly with herself for falling over whilst sober - but she'll live.

Yesterday was supposed to be all about the grandson going out and spending his birthday money with his mother - who he rarely gets to spend 1-on-1 time with on a Saturday.  Instead, he and I went shopping whilst the daughter sat in the walk-in!  If I'd realised how quick she was going to be, I would have waited for her.  But going through town with the two of them is like the old days when I had two children, both too old to hold my hands and both making their own sweet way through the crowds!

Anyway, the grandson got quite a good haul - full Liverpool kit for 2017/18 (shirt from our son - with name, number and badges - shorts and socks from his own money), Nike t-shirt and shorts, a very small 'man bag' type thing and a bike pump!  And he has more money to come and my parents will no doubt take him into town, too, when they're back from their cruise.

Today, I'm giving a talk in church on my favourite Bible passage.  That'll be fun!
