Onwards and upwards
Apr. 11th, 2020 08:38 amThe video interview went really well. The interviews that I've been successful in have felt like conversations and the ones where I've been unsuccessful have been traumatising. Both interviews have definitely been at the conversation end of the spectrum!
On Thursday, I got a call to say I hadn't got the job. In the end, it came down to experience in line management, and I'm kicking myself a bit for down playing my experience there. OK, I don't formally line manage anyone at the moment but I manage my volunteers and I get work out of people who are all on higher grades through a combination of bullying, charm and persuasion. Also, because I applied online, I can see the other jobs I've applied for with the Civil Service and this job shows up twice, meaning I started an application and didn't complete it, AND meaning that they didn't find anyone the first time round and had to readvertise. If I had completed it, maybe I'd already have the job...
But, there's no point second guessing. I got close, REALLY close. And if I did it once, I can do it again. I just need to find something I want to apply for...
They also said that they were putting me on the 'reserve list', so if another suitable position comes up they can offer it to me without everyone having to go through the recruitment process. And I've connected with the Head of Dept on LinkedIn.
Overall, I'm chalking it up as a win. Like getting 99% in FFX-2, so you get the good ending, not the perfect one. Yeah - gotta get a gaming reference in!
