A year ago we were enjoying a surprise visit from Daughter & co, and playing Coffee Talk 2.

Today was our Agape Communion service, which I was supporting, so arrived early. The new Churchwarden has been fitting new locks on the doors that all use the same key, which will simplify things. As the lockable filing cabinet we use for safeguarding stuff is in one of the rooms with the new locks, I now have a new key! The key for the filing cabinet didn't want to work at first, but I persuaded it that it really was the right key.

After dinner, I got out into the back garden for a handful of small jobs. The first was turning the contents of the compost bin because it doesn't make compost if you don't turn it. There were a couple of very healthy-looking worms amongst the contents, so I put them back in when I'd finished.

Next, I cut a length of the super-strong weed suppressing membrane we got for the raised bed at the front and laid it across most of the middle patch. I've left a strip down each side, which can be dug over and planted as beds. Need to think about what to put there... I'll leave the membrane down for the rest of the year and then decide what's going in the middle.

Then I did a bit of a tidy of the pond. What I thought was all pond weed is really the roots of the marsh marigold and iris. I peeled the pot off the former and let it just sit in the pond, but its roots kept floating untidily, so I used a stone to weight it down. The fountain has given up the ghost, so a new one of those is also on my shopping list. The iris seems to have created a baby but I'm going to leave it alone for the summer and try separating them later in the year. I'm going to let the pond settle down and look at new plants next year.

Finally, I tipped the contents of a number of small pots, all of which were just growing weeds, into the hole that used to have the pond in it, then planted the hydrangea and forest flame in it. I realised I should have watered them before unpotting them but gave them a good drink afterwards instead. I topped the hole up with the last of a bag of compost and then a dressing of bark chippings. A very successful hour!

As I was waking up this morning I realised my Rook was all wrong. My elf mage was supposed to be more wide-eyed innocent than sassy-pants, and he sees himself as an elf first and anything else second. So, I deleted the character I made yesterday and started again. He's now an elf mage Veil Jumper, which makes a lot more sense. And he's a nervous soul. Solas is going to eat him for breakfast. I'm hoping to pursue a romance with Bellara, just to see how that works. We're now in the Alatharian Forest about to look for some missing Dalish.

This evening, I watched the next two episodes of The Other Bennett Sister. I like the concept but I'm not sure about the execution.

And now for an early night.
