A year ago I was preparing to vote, making progress with work, watching Coming to America, worrying about Eldest Grandson, and looking forward to Granddaughter's arrival.

This morning I went to St Margaret's for morning prayer. As I was going in, I realised I had a missed call from the son, so I called him back and he told me about Jota ;( So sad... After MP I popped back into ours to tell the husband, then continued the journey to the office.

As I was going through Liverpool One, I bumped into one of our nieces and her husband who were going to support one of their sons, who was giving a presentation in the Cunard Building. We swapped sickness stories - me about husband, she about her father (husband's brother) - and then I continued on my way.

In Derby Square, a man dropped a jacket that he was carrying over his bag. A passing lorry driver also spotted it and was beeping their horn like crazy, but the bloke just ignored it. I got his attention, picked up the jacket and gave it back. The lorry driver and I gave each other a thumbs up!

So, as sad as the news about Jota is (he was 28, got married 2 weeks ago and has 3 kids), if I hadn't popped back to ours I wouldn't have met the niece, and if I hadn't chatted to her I wouldn't have been able to give the random tourist his jacket back. Silver linings...?

Daughter rang to say Younger Grandson had been sent home from nursery with suspected chicken pox but the spots look more like bites to me - though goodness knows what from! She had been planning to visit us at the weekend, too :(

Work-wise, I tried creating a new measure so that the boxes on one of my reports show '0' instead of 'blank'. I understand how it works in theory, but I couldn't translate the example into my actual thing. One to ask Friendly Dev about, I think. Once I have a working example, I can do the rest.

Husband's feet seem to be responding to the water tablets - they're a little less swollen and definitely warmer. Someone from the GP's surgery is going to call tomorrow between 9am and 8pm - very precise! I have a 9am meeting, and I want to try picking up his prescription, even though I only put it in today and they say wait 2 working days - but that would mean Monday and he needs the inhaler. So, I'm hoping the GP calls after about 11am :D

I finished the day with Doctor Who - I've now watched the first three Pertwee stories. The effects are remarkably good, given the time the programme was made, but I've seen more than one 'solid' brick wall wobble! And heaven help the Earth if we ever have to rely on the Brigadier's hand-to-hand combat skills...

And now bed!
