So many programmes, so little time
Apr. 24th, 2025 09:24 pmThis time last year I was counting LMs (in some cases, it would be JUST like counting sheep), gearing up to facilitate a new committee, and watching Monk - which I did not go back to.
Today I did the stuff with the lessons learned. There are two biggies that have shown up on the three I reviewed. On the plus side, using DevOps for dev and test works really well; on the other, there's little to no governance around our environments, and even less appetite from management to put anything in place. I'm sitting back with my popcorn, waiting to see how it all pans out.
On the reporting side, I did the cosmetic work with no problems, and identified HOW to do what I was asked to do. However, not all the fields I want are in the environment I'm using. I've written a long Teams message to our placement student outlining some of the changes, and I'm hoping they can make a start tomorrow. Unfortunately, they only work Fridays at the moment and I'm going to be off every Friday for the next two months! So, it could take a while to get through it all. But as long as it's ready for the new academic year, I'll be happy. It would also be interesting to lay out my monthly report in the same way. I'll think about that for the June one.
My favourite colleague asked me about a piece of work we did together 10 years ago - and which is one of the things I've kept tucked away for whatever reason. So, we're going to scrabble round our collective memory banks and give it a whirl tomorrow. I expect there will also be Things To Say about the new Doctor Who series...
I have names for my other two female characters. The Sweetheart is Kirana (adapted from Carina, which means love), and the Real World woman is MC. This is short for Marie Celeste (yes, there are people who would call their kids that - or similar). Her unmarried name was Nutt, so she jokes that it could have been worse - she could have been called Marie Therese. She has two step-brothers who each have a son, but no children of her own. Like her mother, she's one of those people who are unsuited to parenting; unlike her mother, nobody persuaded her otherwise.
Husband asked me an interesting question. What three things lift my heart? His were good food (he'd just eaten some fruit salad), Liverpool winning the Prem (only need 1 point from a possible 15), and seeing the grandkids. Mine were seeing the kids, the garden (seeing things grow and watching the birds), and good fiction (I led with video games but books, film and TV are all acceptable!). I also had honourable mentions for a hot bath (the LUXURY of all that water...), and knowing I've really hit the spot for someone (whether it's a good meal, or just the right present).
And that was today.
