I've been on leave the last couple of days.  The son was also off on Thursday, so we had a family trip to Sefton Park.  It's been a long time since all three of us were there together, and I don't think it's ever been just the three of us - we'd have had the daughter and assorted nieces and nephews along in the past.  There were thunderstorms forecast for the afternoon and I had a hair appointment to get back for, but we really felt in no rush when we set off.  I also had some washing on the line that I hoped I could rescue before the rain hit.

To be honest, it wasn't really a firm plan, so I had gone upstairs to play some Uncharted 2 when the son came up and invited me to join him and his dad.  I considered letting them go to do some 'male bonding' (not really necessary in their case as they are great friends) but I thought, 'why not?' and agreed to go.  I quickly regretted it.  It was blazing hot with very little shade and my head was splitting before we got to Prince's Park.  We found some shade there and sat for a few minutes and I considered just going back home.  But it was nice to be out and husband-son-me is an unusual combination for days out - although it is the usual combination for days in.

So, we kept going.  Sefton Park was, inevitably, very busy and the husband asked why people spend a fortune going abroad.  We got a coffee but then realised it was after 1pm and my appointment was at 3pm, so began making our way home, but still at a leisurely pace.  The thunderstorm began chasing us about half way through Prince's Park and hit at the top end of Windsor Street.  At this point I was asking myself why I had even come out in the first place, or why I hadn't left them in Prince's Park and generally feeling grumpy.  However, I did remind myself that we had had a really nice time being out and together in Sefton Park, and actually it was a good time overall.  I raced on ahead to take care of the washing but, as I turned in to our road, the sun came out again!

So, I left the washing to dry off again and went to get my hair done.  And it started raining again!  And then stopped again!!  Anyway, I decided not to risk it any more and brought the washing in when I got home.  I (finally) got settled in with Drake and then the real storm hit.  It felt as though my head was in a vice, although only for a few minutes.  The rain outside looked like a monsoon had hit and I had to close the bedroom windows because it was actually coming in.  Then it all cleared up AGAIN and the sun shone for the rest of the day.

Yesterday, the husband and I went out again - son was back at work.  We had planned to go down to the Albert Dock but there were thunderstorms forecast again, so we stayed local.  We also tried out a new chippy that we'd passed one evening when it was closed - and it lived up to expectations.  And the thunderstorm never materialised!

So, an indoors day, today and down to St Michael's tomorrow - which reminds me, I need to pick hymns!

And that's all for now, DW.
