Really not much going on work-wise and the meeting that was supposed to happen next week has been cancelled due to low attendance.  So, I have another three days of trying to invent work to look forward to.

What it has meant, though, is that I had time to play with the formatting of my novel into the template provided by Lulu - which is SO frustrating it isn't true.  For some reason, the page numbers just disappear at random.  And I can't get the first page of Chapter 1 to stay on an odd-numbered page.  It's just... urgh…  I have created my own template based on the style guide, so I'll see how that works out.

Yesterday was forecast to be a sunny day (after several days of either actual rain or predicted rain that never materialised) and I wanted to get some washing out - but I don't have time to do washing as well as the rest of my morning routine.  What to do?  Put it in the machine before you go to bed, suggested the husband.  The man's a genius - I knew there was a reason I married him!  Washing spent all day on the line and was beautifully dry before I got home.

I had a meeting with my mentor on Thursday that raised an interesting question about my job application.  If I met all the criteria on the person spec (which I believe I did) why did I not get an interview?  The 'we thought it was too big a jump' for you sounds, as my mentor pointed out, rather paternalistic.  I'll be the judge of what's too big a jump, thank you!  They interviewed 5 people - how much more of a trauma would 6 have been?  AND they didn't appoint.  Now, HR are involved in every stage of recruitment, so I have to believe that there was some element of the person spec that I didn't do as well in as the other candidates.

So, I have a couple of plans of action relating to this.  Firstly, to ask 'innocently' what aspect of the person spec they felt I was weakest in so I can focus on building up my skills and experience in that area.  Secondly, the one thing I REALLY lack is formal PM experience, where I have the title PM, a list of tasks to achieve, and someone that I'm accountable to for delivering them, so, I'm going to ask about some form of secondment.  To be fair, the Director did suggest picking up some small, discrete pieces of work from the two team managers that the PMs (if we ever recruit them) would be working for - I am just asking to a) formalise that and b) get paid for it!

My mentor also came along to my commissioning as Local Missional Leader for A Taste of God on Tuesday.  It was the first time they'd come to a session and they really enjoyed it and plan to come again.  I made some very cute origami butterflies that had a tendency to pop 'open' - of course, I found some flatter ones when I did another search on YouTube.  *sigh*

Well, today's plan involves the usual round of housework, a visit from mother and stepfather to deliver anniversary gifts, and starting Uncharted 3.  My life is such a whirl of excitement!

Bye for now, DW!
