Efficiencies... yeah...
Mar. 7th, 2019 06:53 amSo we had a staff email last week that referred to the need for 'efficiencies' but that the situation would be handled 'sensitively'. The word 'redundancies' was not mentioned but what else needs to be handled sensitively in relation to efficiency? My own job is not immediately under threat, and as a lower-grade administrator I do think I have enough buoyancy to keep afloat in any but the direst circumstances. I do, however, think that the chances of promotion are now zero.
So, the hunt for another job continues (still haven't heard about the one I applied for), although the whole university sector is in uncertain waters, with the Augar report on funding looming and the shit-storm that is Brexit making everything ridiculously dark and gloomy.
I'm also vaguely concerned that a no deal Brexit will reduce food imports, meaning that my kids (who both work in supermarkets) may find themselves out of work just because there's nothing to sell. If I was as given to worrying and anxiety as I used to be, I think I'd have an ulcer by now!
Writing-wise, I'm struggling to produce a 700 word story about a wood spirit who is mourning the loss of her trees. It's getting there, but oh, so slowly!
My artist is working on the cover for 'The Curse of Mannerley Manor', though, so there's still the chance of that getting snapped up by Hollywood and making me rich enough to give up work and provide for the kids and grandson. Here's hoping...
