First thing to report is that it's my daughter's 31st birthday. Where did the time go?!
Secondly, I do not recommend the menopause. It is Not Fun. At All. Read with me to see what you might be in store for. Or skip the rantings of a 'woman of a certain age'. The choice is yours.
So, my cycle has never been what you'd call regular. For most of my child-bearing years, it settled to being about 30-32 days, with about three heavy days and a couple of trailing off days. After being a total nightmare before I gave birth (regular vomiting, cramps and headaches, with the added fun of fainting in public on one occasion), it did settle down to only occasional cramps after the daughter arrived.
The last few (4 or 5?) years, we've settled to a rhythm of 3 days moderate flow every 3 weeks. Little to nothing in the way of other symptoms, except I've occasionally felt a bit tired in the day or so before. This I could cope with. I had such a period just before Christmas, then nothing until the middle of February. And then it hit. Full on week of flow with accompanying tiredness. Although, to be fair, no pain. It just didn't seem to want to stop!
Since Christmas, I've also had a series of strange non-hot flushes. First there was the high colour in my face, although I felt fine internally - a male colleague commented to another about it, I think meaning it as a compliment but... well, I don't think I look my age but I don't make a secret of being 'of an age' and it really isn't something I want to have attention drawn to. Then I had a day were I felt like shit and had this weird burning sensation right through the middle of my body - but not hot as such. And I'm getting so hot and sweaty at night, it just isn't true.
So, yeah... Not Fun.
