I know I don't come here very often but I do journal - just on paper.

Writing - I've completed a draft of Mannerley and sent it to my Betas. I am also going to do some more editing on the dialogue and then do another pass through the whole thing, hopefully informed by lots of feedback from my readers. Then a final(?) pass and I think we'll be ready to properly investigate self-publishing options. I originally set myself the deadline of the end of August, which got my arse into gear to do some Work. It's now looking like the end of September, but that's OK. The point is to get it over the line!

Work - everything pretty much grinds to a halt in August, so there's been no movement on the new JD. We have been awarded a pay increase of 2%, which is double what we've had for the last few years but still feels like it's hardly worth the effort. I also got my negotiating skills into gear yesterday and got some agreement on changes to a document that someone else wrote but which I feel is within my remit to rewrite.

So, I support projects. It's my job. Part of that is producing standardised templates for the rest of the team to use. I also update and maintain templates, and retire ones that are no longer required. So, in my head, if someone wants a new template, they come to me and say, 'we need a template that does x' and I produce it. In this case, if I had been asked, I would have pointed out that there was already a template for what they wanted - which had never been used (and now never will be because the new one has superseded it) or at the very least given them the document template template that features our standard colours, fonts, formatting, etc. But no, the person went off and produced their own template from scratch with no reference to me and then acted all hurt and upset when I updated it, ie, did my job.

To be fair, the new template is easier to use and understand than the old one (which made use of macros in a Word document... needless to say, I didn't produce the original but I was involved in its development) and has headings I really like. However, it misses some information I consider vital, like alignment to strategy, and key dates to be taken into account. It was argued that this information is usually entered but under other headings - well, let's make it explicit! So, we got to a document we could agree on, which felt like a win.

Gaming wise, I've finished 'I Am Setsuna'. Spoilers ahead...

I was listening to the OST the other day and the titles of some of the pieces implied a sad ending. And it was. The game begins with Endir hired to kill Setsuna. She persuades him to accompany her on her journey as sacrifice (can anyone say FFX?), instead. But at the end, she absorbs the soul of the 'real' baddy who is the final boss (but isn't really a baddy just a tortured soul) and asks Endir to destroy her body. You have the choice to 'swing your sword' or 'don't swing your sword', you make the choice and it cuts away to see the other characters getting on with their lives. I've watched the YouTube video of not killing her and the rest of the ending is the same - no clue what happens to 'possessed' Setsuna. Anyway, I thought I should fulfil her final wish.

It's such a cute game and so filled with nostalgia. I highly recommend it!

OK, time to get on with the day. Buy DW.
