Juggling ALL the balls...
Sep. 3rd, 2022 08:33 amSo, I'm now officially supporting three BIG projects. This is not a problem for me personally - it's working around the diaries of three sets of senior people that causes the headaches. Also, three different PMs with different ways of working. Two make really good use of me and I have no difficulty with. The other just doesn't seem interested in leaning on me - even though I think I could really help. As my line-manager said, there's only so many times you can say, 'I think I could help with that.'. For example, there's a benefits mapping meeting for that project but I haven't been invited. Now, I may not have much to contribute to the list of benefits, but I can facilitate the meeting, freeing up the PM and BA to properly engage with the discussion. But, it's not like I don't have other stuff to do.
We're trying a new way of capturing the RAG status of a project, which includes a question about project plans and progress against them. This means that one of our newer projects is scoring Amber because it really doesn't have a project plan yet, so there's nothing to make progress against. This is perfectly valid and in no way reflects on the ability of the PM or the developers - but the CIO wasn't happy with it. Well, either we continue with our unscientific method of asking the PMs who all say 'green' - or we try for something slightly more objective!

Why is it that people ask for stuff and when you give it to them say, 'no, that wasn't what I meant'? ROFL
It is also helping me to get the portfolio into better shape by better highlighting the problems and how we're addressing them - and how I report on them. We're definitely moving this stuff on.
It's Derby Day, which gives Liverpool another chance to turn Everton over at their own ground. This is what the new grandson will have to get used to :D I expect the existing grandson will go to his step-grandparents to watch it and banter with them.
