So, other than the district nurse coming in to change dressings on husband's pressure sores (which seem to be multiplying like rabbits at the moment), the only real appointment we had was the blood clinic yesterday.  And we got a result the same day - husband's kidneys are stressed, which means Drink. The. Water.  Lots and lots of water!  And a follow up appointment on Wednesday.

We also picked up the final bits and pieces for Christmas - if we don't have it now, it's too late.

I'm off for a bath, now, then I'm expecting my new mattress, finally.  Then the family are going to join us for presents and food - then we get to shut the door on the world for a couple of days.

Happy Christmas, or whatever you celebrate, DW!  See you on the other side <3

Christmas was a bit spread out this year, but went well.  My pashmina is even nicer 'in the flesh' than it was in the picture, which is unusual!  The dinner wasn't the greatest I've ever produced but it got eaten so I'll take the win.

I've spent the past week being quiet, lazy and self-indulgent, which was just what I needed.  The next week is for working my way through the house, giving it a proper clean.  It's not that big a house but doing a job per day leaves lots of time for doing other things.  Like rewarding myself for all the hard work with gaming :D

I got my booster jab yesterday and my arm's a bit sore but I'm otherwise fine.

I'm so glad I booked the extra week off, because I am NOT ready to go back to work.  I will keep an eye on my inbox, though, to clear out any random stuff so I don't have too much to tackle when I'm back properly on 10 Jan.

I seem to have developed a taste for rom-coms.  I rewatched The Holiday and then watched A Christmas Number One - both pretty cheesy and fairly predictable but taken in that spirit pretty enjoyable.

I'm also making my way through Poirot, which was made in the late '90s and early '00s, and which I enjoyed the first time round.  Poirot's relationship with Japp is a joy.  But the woman playing Miss Lemon overacts everything, which is annoying.  She does bear a striking resemblance to one of my colleagues, though!

I still have Titans S3 to finish and The Witcher S2 to watch.

And I'm trying to read Angela's Ashes but I'm finding the style a bit of a struggle to get through.

And that's life, today.  Happy New Year and see you next week!

Popping in a day early because I expect tomorrow to be quite busy enough :D

I finished work yesterday, which is really late for the university.  But now I'm off until 10 Jan (the uni is closed anyway until 3 Jan, and I've used 4 days of leave).  I prefer to have time off after Christmas.  I'm REALLY tired but there's nothing particular I can point at as the cause.  I'm just ready for this year to be over.

Of course, there's a small thing called Christmas to get through first!  But I don't see Christmas as effort, really.

Today, I'm off to visit my mother and step-father, then I have some shopping to do - some last-minute stuff and some keeping-the-cupboards-stocked stuff - on the way home.

Tomorrow, we're having our Christmas Day service on Zoom, which makes everything so much easier.  I'll get the turkey in the oven early and then it'll be ready whenever we're ready to eat.  But cooking a roast dinner is one of life's pleasures for me.  I just know what the next thing to do is without really thinking about it, so it doesn't stress me.

Sunday we're expecting daughter & co but the grandson has a rash that LOOKS like chicken pox (which would be his third dose!) but the pharmacist said he thought it was an allergic reaction to something.  He's well enough in himself but still has the rash, so we'll have to see how it goes.

And on Monday, I hibernate.  My most pressing decision will be whether to watch The Witcher or play Okami :D

Happy Christmas, DW - see you on the other side!

I got into town as early as possible last week and it was already heaving.  Apparently everyone else had the same idea as me!  But I got some presents bought, then moved on to the 'normal' shop, which I had zero enthusiasm for.  More present buying today, but my 'normal' list is much shorter this week, so it shouldn't be so exhausting.

I'm going to put the Christmas decorations up tomorrow.  I was going to wait for next weekend but that would have felt like decorating JUST for the visitors, and I want us three to get into the Xmas Atmos.

My body is playing 'shall-I-shan't-I?' with periods again.  It FEELS like I'm about to get hit with the mother of all bleeds, but it just isn't arriving.  It's more annoying than the actual period would be.  I think...

I'm re-reading Little Women and enjoying it more than I remember.  It may be worth looking out the sequels, which I've never read.

Work was another battle of getting more senior people to do their jobs so I don't look like I'm not doing mine *sigh*  But I do love the VC, who has given us the days before Christmas off!  This means I have 3 whole weeks of doing nothing.  Well, not REALLY nothing, but you know what I mean.

And I'm feeling very noble for NOT investigating Playstation Access' '19 things we know about FF16'.  I don't need to be persuaded to buy it - I KNOW I'm going to buy it - all I need is the release date!  Oh, and another DA game is coming.  That, I think, I will probably investigate more, and get it when the price drops.

Right, the Asda shop is arriving early this week, so I need to be ready.  Bye, DW!

Apparently, I've used that title before.  I make no apologies - I really don't know where the time has gone.

So, Christmas is most definitely ON, now, which means Christmas Shopping - yay...  I'm trying to pace myself for a number of reasons:
  1. Just basic energy levels - I can't do everything in one go
  2. Limiting the number of shops I go into on any given day - I have 5 shops to visit just for 'normal' Saturday stuff
  3. I have 3 Saturdays and I can only do what I can do - anything that isn't done by 19 December just isn't done
  4. Although I have booked 23 December off work, so, you know, I have a spare day :D
Husband is going round the usual endless circles of what to get food-wise.  We want to be generous and hospitable, without buying so much food that it doesn't get eaten.  It's an annual trauma and we always end up with too much *sigh*

He rang the grandson last night asking him to look for some clothes online that the son can buy for him.  We'll see what comes out of that!  He was doing his best teenager act, answering monosyllabically or with grunts :D <3

Anyway, the shopping won't do itself - time to get this day underway!

Work wise, I'm learning about Power Apps and working (slowly) through the process of designing and building one.  I've done the planning and some wire-framing - next up, data!

Weather wise, yesterday was a mix of squally showers and bright sunshine.  O_o

Christmas wise, we're wondering about whether we should have everyone down, which I think we're deciding we shouldn't.  But what do we do instead?  I'm pondering gift cards and cross-stitched Christmas cards - I would need to get my skates on to produce the latter but they should be doable.

Health wise, I'm feeling just about back to normal.

Writing wise, I got story number 46 up!  You can read it here.  It feels like it could be a bigger story, but so have a few of the recent ones.

Oh, and with Christmas coming up, don't forget you can still buy The Curse of Mannerley Manor, which is set at Christmas time!  I've just realised that I never got round to the e-version...  I think it should go on next year's 'to do' list because I don't have the mental capacity at the moment.

And that just about wraps the week up :)

That is possibly the most ridiculous line in any song ever. Anyway...

The experiment to have the family on Christmas Eve rather than Boxing Day seemed to work quite well. It certainly made yesterday much easier for me because I felt my Christmas break had actually started.

Christmas Day went well. The grandson got up in time for everyone to open presents and me to get washed and dressed in time for church. The service was lovely, of course. I got a pretty good haul of pressies this year...

- DQXI
- full set of Anne of Green Gables books
- goodies from Lush
- Venus flytrap plant (grow your own)
- slippers
- chocolate

And some other oddments that I can't think of.

I've boiled the turkey carcass to make stock and will be turning that into something tasty later. Sometimes, I'm almost domestic!

As soon as the daughter was gone yesterday, I made a start on DQXI. It's too early to say that I love it but I am definitely enjoying the familiarity of the gameplay and the artwork. Some of the voice acting in the early part of the game was a bit patchy, especially Gemma who seems to be an important character. And the main character doesn't speak at all - and I had to give him a name. That was a bit weird. Erik looks like he's going to be fun, though.

I have a couple of semi-chilled days planned, and then next week is all about getting the house cleaned.

Bye for now, DW!
