Yes, we mean ALL volunteers...

A year ago, we were starting husband's rheumatology journey (which has kind stuttered to a halt), looking forward to watching Dave enjoy FFVII OG, and getting nostalgic with husband.
Today, I took a leisurely approach to getting into work then got the Portfolio into shape (then had to do more tidying - I've really let it go... Can't wait for the day it's all automated.), and drafted my monthly report.
This evening I had the second session of my Safeguarding Leadership training. One thing that came up was the matter of forgiveness. Any mention of forgiveness should come from the victim, and victims should not be made to feel like a 'bad Christian' if they feel they can't forgive the perpetrator. I get all that, I really do - especially that everything should be victim-led. What's bugging me is that holding on to that kind of anger - even hatred - harms us and gives the abuser even more power over us. But the victim has to get to that point themselves.
The other thing that I realise is that we don't actually safely recruit ALL of our volunteers. The welcomer at the front door, and the people serving tea and coffee, and the musicians are all volunteers with roles but we never think of needing to do safe recruitment with them. Those roles are all carried out in public, of course - but what's to stop them meeting someone vulnerable outside church? or what if someone disclosed something to them - would they know how to respond? Something to add to my growing list of Things To Email About...
I finished off the day with an episode of The Rookie. Probably not a good idea given that I need to be less leisurely in getting to work tomorrow, but it was a good distraction.
And now I'm going to put the bin out before I forget!
