It's not so hard...
Apr. 16th, 2025 09:35 pmThis time last year I was enjoying Graduation and making a new friend (who I met up with last week), and getting nostalgic for how we used to be.
Today, I really wanted to get my Strategy x Projects report finished off, but that meant speaking to someone. Now, this person is far from a stranger, and is always super helpful, but... my pesky inner introvert was being assertive. That meant that I let it slide yesterday and found ways to be busy this morning. But this afternoon, I really did run out of excuses, so I asked for their help. It's really not hard...
They had set up the 'How projects support our values' screen, which I used as the model for the 'How projects support our aims' screen - and they complimented what I'd done. I confessed how pleased I was with myself for getting as far as I did with it :D Then I showed them the bits I'd got stuck with and they told me what I needed to do. In one case, I'd got the wrong item in the fields list due to not quite understanding how the queries work (which is why some formal training would have been nice... but we don't have any spare money for things like that, now), and in the other, I just hadn't been quite persistent enough with searching for the answer. So, the report is now done, and ready to share with my LM - when they're back from leave.
Then I was trying to set up a meeting and one of the invitees messaged to say that another person was on leave that day - but their calendar was completely blank. I do get SO annoyed by people not putting their leave in their Outlook calendars! The person who contacted me said that their team use a Teams calendar to record their leave - not very helpful when I'm booking meetings in Outlook... But I have my Outlook calendar hooked up to my leave calendar (we book leave through a separate system), I just couldn't remember how I'd done it! Luckily, the person who showed me was still about, so they shared the link to the funky system created by another colleague (but criminally under-marketed - why doesn't EVERYONE know about it? and why couldn't I find it on our intranet?!), and I shared the link and some screenshots with the other person. When it's synced up, the time is automatically blocked out in Outlook, so they don't need to remember to do that and Teams.
Got to talk to my mother a couple of times. Stepfather had to go back into surgery last night because his wound was still bleeding but they got that sorted. This afternoon, they were trying to get him to come round, which he still hadn't done when she left, but it looks like he's on the right road. And she sounded so much better.
This evening, I have declared Forspoken done-done. Tomorrow, we start DA: The Veil Cad!
