Last year I was entering my hols with gusto, ignoring the cleaning, watching films and playing video games - including FF: Ring of Fates, which I abandoned, yet again *sigh*

Today I intended to get into the garden but I had some household extras (including emergency washing and a roast) and decided I could leave the digging, especially as that's one of the tasks I want to do while I'm off.

At church this morning we were discussing the parable of the fig tree and were invited to think about which perspective we view it from - the land owner, the gardener, the tree... or the manure! Like the stone that was rejected by the builders, or the mustard plant that shelters birds, or the yeast that lurks at the back of a shelf but works through the whole loaf, manure isn't a very attractive thing at first glance. But it's absolutely essential to a successful garden. Just as Christians are yeast and salt and light, perhaps we should be compost, too.

We were also asked to think about Jesus message to 'repent or perish' as meaning 'if you keep doing the same things, how do you expect anything to change?!', and to suggest ways that the world could/should change. My number one thing is to stop believing the scarcity model as reality. There are more than enough resources for everyone, the world is actually over-flowing, abundant! But because we believe the lie of scarce resources and that everyone must grab what they can, we forgive the stupidly wealthy for grabbing more than their share - because that's what we'd do if we were them. A more equal distribution would still leave some people with far more than they need, but would at least give everyone enough to live comfortably.

One of my favourite Biblical images is everyone sitting under their own fig tree, enjoying the fruit of their own vine. It's one of the more individualistic images, admittedly, but I think it's saying this is the minimum each of us should expect.

I played some more of Coffee Talk 2. It's definitely designed to be played more than once but I probably won't replay it. I view it, and the original game, as offering a change of pace, not something I want to wring every drop out of. There are 53 trophies, for crying out loud! I think it's going to have a very nice ending, though. Apparently there's a third game - CT: Tokyo - that's been announced but isn't out yet.

The roast went down very well with clean plates all round. I've boiled the bones to make stock, so that's chicken soup for dinner tomorrow!

Expecting tomorrow to be a mixed sort of day.
