Being grandparents <3
Apr. 6th, 2024 09:52 pmI forgot to mention yesterday that I watched 'Scoop', which tells the story of how Emily Maitlis came to interview Prince Andrew. I didn't watch the interview itself at the time because I have little enough interest in the 'main' royal family, let alone the rest of them. It was impossible not to follow the whole Epstein saga, though. And I have watched a documentary about Ghislaine Maxwell - of whom more, anon!
But back to 'Scoop'. It was based on a book written by Sam McAlister, the woman who actually 'hooked' (for want of a better word!) Andrew. It was actually his personal secretary who convinced him to go for it. He had a press secretary(?), some supposed media expert hired to help with his 'image' anyway, who advised him to just lay low and the whole Epstein story would go away. Which it never would have done. However, the personal secretary's believe that his personal charm would win everyone over was clearly misplaced.
During the interview, Maitlis gave him many opportunities to denounce Epstein, or to express remorse for his own actions, or at the very least some modicum of empathy for the victims - as the father of two daughters himself! It was interesting that, after the interview, all the Palace people thought it had gone very well. The BBC people were also very pleased with it - but for obviously very different reasons! He comes across as just completely oblivious to other ways of living. Everyone has shooting parties, don't they?
Now to Ms Maxwell. Obviously, I don't condone her actions for a moment. What she did was just so wrong in so many ways. But the only person who has been punished is a woman. Epstein 'committed suicide', and all his rich, male friends are going on with their lives. Ghislaine Maxwell is not only in prison, she's on suicide watch, which means the lights in her cell are switched on every hour and someone looks in to check she's alive. Alive but also sleep deprived - which is a form of torture, isn't it?
In happier news, we had a fun hour with grandson #2. Husband gave him a chocolate digestive, which he munched on happily, then got one for himself, which baby also took off him and proceeded to eat! He then went crawling around the room, a biscuit firmly clutched in each hand! He also had several gulps of water from my water bottle because there wasn't one in the bag daughter left with him. He continues to be delighted by me juggling two balls in the air. And his almost-walking has improved just in the past week. Won't be long, now!
The scan itself went well. The sonographers were particularly focussed on baby's heart as that was what they were getting extra training on. They then tried to do the 4D scan, at which point she decided to hide behind her placenta :D She's just shy, obviously.
I started EotF, which looks like it could be interesting from the perspective of building out the game's lore. I'm a bit disappointed that the three main NPC's all looked exactly alike. I know they produced it in a really short time, but surely they could have given them different faces? Even a moustache for one of them would have helped! The first boss fight took a LOT of potions, so I've got my fingers crossed that there are plenty of items for me to collect! I can leave the area but I lose my progress. I have picked up some new gear, though.
And this evening, husband tried out his new bath board, which went very well!
Tomorrow, I'm leading at church but our trainee Reader is speaking. I need to get there early but don't have to write anything :)
