So, our CIO has a habit of creating new versions of project lists whenever asked about planned work. And the titles of projects tend to change from one list to the next. Part of my new role is to track the finance aspect of our projects, so this week I spent quite a bit of time wrangling three different lists into one, with financial information (high level) AND a projected timeline (although, of course, the way the timelines of each of the contributing spreadsheets was set out was slightly different...). Anyway, I've sent the result to the CIO for feedback.
We're also gearing up to close another project *gasps of amazement*. I had a chat with the PM about how the university just doesn't understand the concept of deadlines and how anything involving a date is, at best, a strong suggestion rather than something that's actually a DEADLINE. In this case, any slippage would have severely impacted another colleague who was under scrutiny from a senior committee. Of course, no-one wanted to drop them in it, they just didn't appreciate how serious the impact could be.
Partly this is due to poor estimation (I think this will take 10 days but when I actually start it I realise it'll be 20) and working to deadlines (I started 10 days before the deadline but now it's going to take 20 days I need more time).
I've got a pack of home testing kits in preparation for when I start going back into the office. We're expected in 1 day a week until September, then 'hybrid working' kicks in - 3 days in the office, 2 at home. Or 5 days in the office, if you prefer - but not 5 days at home if you prefer, which I say is DISCRIMINATION!!! Between now and September we need to have proof of a negative covid test before we can enter any of the buildings. I'm planning on going in on Tuesdays because the Taste of God group is hoping to meet f2f from July. Of course, all of this depends on whether lockdown is actually lifted on 21 June, with the delta variant running wild.
The ending of The Fall was a bit underwhelming in the end. Nothing really to say about it.
I've watched a couple of episodes of The Queen's Gambit - the first I found tedious but the second has definitely piqued my interest. We'll see how that goes.
And I watched the first episode of Sweet Tooth (although it's made by Warner Bros who thought beating up a bisexual character as an event for Pride was a good idea - watch Jimquisition rant about it, here), which was cute and funny, and managed to grab me in the first five minutes.
And that's about it. Catch you next week, DW.
