Yesterday was just about perfect.  It rained for most of the day, but it quite often rains on my birthday and I wasn't going anywhere, so it didn't matter.

I started with a cooked breakfast from the husband, which was delicious.  Then he gave me his pressies: chocolate truffle hearts, cinder toffee (SO good), a chocolate orange, a box of essential oils (intended for the bath but I'll probably use them more with my oil burner), grow-your-own bonsai, and a nice fluffy towel for when I get out of the bath.

Then I had a bath (rose and vanilla oils!) and managed to squeeze into my nice dress (a little tight around the ribs, so pulling the zip up was 'fun'), then settled down for some Triple Triad.  The son then got up and gave my his pressies: statuettes of the Sphinx, Nefertiti and an Egyptian cat (I now have 3 of those), mini figures of the first 11 Doctors (each with tiny sonic screwdriver!), a 'Mr Baggins' mug (in the style of the Mr Men but Bilbo), two Chocobo pins, and a poster with a quote from Pride & Prejudice.

The afternoon was mostly spent watching The Rookie (which is so, so, SO good) and A League of Their Own Road Trip.  And a huge bunch of flowers from my mum and stepdad arrived.

Then daughter and co arrived.  The grandson gave me a bird feeder in the shape of a bee hive.  Daughter and fiance gave me: a pen and notebook, a mug with koalas on, some locally produced loose tea in different flavours (hope I've still got that infuser in the drawer!), locally produced chocolate, an elephant shaped keyring and elephant shaped candle, an emerald pendant, a trivia card game based on the last 50 years, some Lush bath bombs and bubble bars (hence why I probably won't use the oils in the bath!), gin liqueur, coasters with scenes of Liverpool, and a tray to hold it all.

Then mum and stepdad arrived with lemon cake, booze and a cat shaped puzzle box.

The son ordered our food, which was very nice but cold (I think I'd like to try the place as a restaurant when that's possible again, though) and we have lots of stuff left over.

The only blot on the day was my stepfather struggling with his food.  He had steak and was munching away but then got hiccups.  My mum explained he'd been getting them at tea time for the last few days, but was fine the rest of the time.  We tried giving him water but in the end he went out into the garden and coughed... something... up.  He was fine after that and managed bucks fizz and cake :D  My mum seemed unconcerned but the rest of us were quite worried about him.

Then people sat around chatting (meaning the boys didn't get to watch the Liverpool v Southampton game) and eventually went home.

So, overall, the best birthday ever, I think!
