The New Year is here!
Jan. 3rd, 2019 08:48 amSo, last Thursday I came down with some weird lurgy that totally trashed my appetite. I very rarely have a problem with my appetite. If it's food and not on the smallish list of things I really don't like, I eats it! But, despite feeling hungry, I really struggled to want to eat. I also had a bit of a cough and a slight snuffle, but nothing that could really be called a cold. But I had that 'everything aches, even my skin' thing that I associate with 'flu. It was weird and unpleasant but the worst is behind me.
Thankfully, I'm not back in work until Monday, so I've got time to get completely better.
Dragon Quest XI continues to amuse. It has limitations - lack of character development and occasionally ropey voice acting being the worst. But it looks so darned gorgeous and there are Towns! that reward Exploration! And occasional bits of dialogue that I find very amusing. And... What feels like an Easter Egg... There's a sea shanty called 'The Leaving of Liverpool', which is one of my personal favourites. And a character in DQXI sang a version of it!!! I was ridiculously amused by that.
I am also revelling in my rediscovery of the Anne books. I don't know how many times I read 'Anne of Green Gables' in the past, or how long it is since I last read it, but my most recent read felt both new and familiar. We really do bring a different sensibility to books as adults. I don't remember it being so funny - but then I identified quite closely with Anne in many ways, when I was younger, so maybe I missed the humour. I'm currently reading 'Anne of Avonlea', which I remember as being much funnier, but which I'm not finding to be so. Although I am finding lots in it that I'd forgotten. All-in-all, though, a very successful gift.
Oh, and I've been having a weird recurring dream where I need to make progress in DQXI in order to progress Anne's story. Fever dreams...
Well, time for a bath, now, methinks!
