Life or writing?!

So one of my roles at church is 'Parish Safeguarding Officer'. I do an OK job with it, but I've really let it slide during the pandemic. And safeguarding is important all of the time. I'm definitely the 'admin arm' of our set-up but I struggled to find motivation to write a role descriptor in the summer. I am also currently doing it on my own because our new PSO's referees aren't sending the bloody references through! And I want to have a chat with them about how we manage stuff in the future - but I can't until they're actually in post *sigh*
I had a training session the other night that got me fired up for it again, though. There are lots of holes in our current processes and some stuff I can do whilst waiting for my colleague to 'on-board' - like making sure our policy is up-to-date. We also need to go through quite a few things with the church council - I'm making a list!
All of this is getting in the way of me planning for Nano. I know what I want to do but it is going to take some working out - and it's already 9 October! Maybe it'll just end up being a Pantser Nano!
I've just finished reading a book written by a friend (Sadie's Story by Sandra Dears, available on Amazon) that was published by a 'proper' publisher (unlike my own The Curse of Mannerley Manor that was self-published through Lulu) but it hasn't made me rush to try them (Blossom Spring Publishing). There was zero proof-reading - it felt very much like a first draft that had gone straight to print. My main bugbear was the terrible, terrible punctuation errors - missing speech marks and too many commas. And she had completely ignored the maxim 'show don't tell'. Which would work with some stories - but not this one! I did cry towards the end, though, so it wasn't completely unreadable :D And I am thinking about it, wondering how Sadie's life continues.
And now I really need to get on with the day. See you next week, DW!
